Decorating a Boulder

Just before I got set to move from the Rogue Valley, I was contacted by an old aquaintance who had been considering a mosaic for his home. He and his wife had finally settled on having their address and street name mosaicked onto a large boulder that sits at the front of their yard.

I have basically been given free reign to do whatever I want with the rest of the decorative aspects, so I hope they like what I came up with. I know his wife loves gardens and native plants, so I decided to go with adding just a few bits of native flora to their commission. Some of the plants that struck me as being quintessentially Pacific Northwest were ferns and lupine, though I know they grow all over the place I had never seen them in such profusion until moving out West. I also added a few allium, because they are such cool blooms, though usually grown for their bulbs: onions, garlic, etc.

Here are the progress shots of the creation, stained glass placed onto clear shelf paper with the adhesive side up.

Oops! just noticed I knocked a couple of the pieces around on the “S”! Oh well, it’s not set in cement yet! Watch for the final results coming as soon as I can get down to install safely…
