Clay Things: With new listings!

Clay Things: Let the season begin!

I wasn’t really sure that clay things would happen in this crazy year of 2020. When I moved here I had to get rid of my kiln and my slab roller. My thinking was I would know so many potters by now that I could beg, borrow, share or join a clay co-op. None of that really happened…but I had all this clay scrap in buckets that I hauled here from S. Oregon. So I just started recycling the clay one day. And started rolling things out with a giant rolling pin (thanks Rick!) and it was so much fun I kept going and now have all this cool stuff to show you! And you can buy it and support me in making more! I have a lot more clay to recycle. It may take a while to get through…LOL So here goes…

First I poured my bucket of “slop” onto a giant old towel and spread it out as evenly as possible. Then waited and checked, and waited some more. It took about a week for it to dry out enough to be useable but I was anxious to get going and ended up wedging it on plaster and old wallboard to soak up more moisture until it was rollable and not too sticky. I created several soft slabs, stacked them overnight and came back the next day to start cutting and making shapes. Bowls, charcuterie boards, and lots of ornaments started coming together over several weeks of October and November. 2020 was the inspiration for this collection. A metaphor for taking all the lumpy available crap i had around and making something good out of it. Working out my frustrations and disappointments of the year on the clay and creating hope and beauty from a bucket of slop became my mission. I hope you love these pieces as much as I do, and may we all make beauty out of what we have right now.

More of my work can be seen by going to Available Artwork.

I will continue to add more pieces through the next week or two as it becomes available.
