Mosaic LOVE workshop February 2014
In my last post over a month ago I was attempting to entice all the locals to come out for this beginners mosaic workshop at the Ashland Art Center- and come out they did! I had a dozen wonderful women and we had a blast (where are the men I ask you?). I started by giving everyone a small frame
Winter Wonder Land
Well, here we are again, another year has come and gone and winter is fully here in the town of Talent. Soon it will be my birthday and the next thing I’ll know it’ll be summer. Time just keeps speeding up the older I get and I feel like I’m trying to catch up and jump on. Although I have
December is here already?!
Whew! what a crazy busy time last month was! The 38th Annual Clayfolk show was a resounding success and I want to thank all of my supporters for coming out to make it our best year ever. I was honored with the front page of the Medford Mail Tribune’s Tempo this year, and I have no doubt it helped me immeasurably. My platters came
Clayfolk is coming!
Well it’s that time of the year again- The 38th Annual Clayfolk Show and Sale is on the horizon. I’ve been spending days and nights non-stop creating new work for this year’s show so I hope to see a lot of folks there. The platters I wrote about in my last post came out beautifully and I’m excited to get
This week with MissMosaicGirl
I started off the week getting all of my bowls sprayed with a clear glaze. This is what they look like after spraying with a clear top coat- all snowy white and matte looking. But then comes the glaze firing! Temperatures of over 2100 degrees are reached to achieve a “high fired” product safe and durable enough to survive
Upcoming shows include my Artwork
Oh my god this has been a busy summer and now fall…I can’t wait to catch my breath, but there’s no end in sight until after The Clayfolk Show coming up November 22nd-24th at the Medford Armory on Hwy. 99 just off exit 27. Anyone wanting to take me to a warm sunny locale, just drop a line. I’m ready!
Fabrication of Astoria Mosaic Complete!
Session three had finally arrived for me. After a busy start to my week, during which we held the first Talent Art Forum for the Talent Public Arts Committee, I arrived in Hillsboro two weekends ago at 10 pm to find an almost completed mosaic. These were the last 3 sections that remained to be done. The first morning I
Mosaic sturgeon will be brightening up Astoria- Part 2
Back up in Hillboro this past week for more work on the Astoria project with Lynn Adamo and her faithful minions. When I arrived the fish were all completed except for a little eye surgery (later) and the watery background was begun. Lynn’s order of blue smalti from Mexico had been delayed by U.S. Customs and had just arrived in

Hello good peoples of the internet! I would like to introduce you all to a wonderful mosaic artist, a fabulous pie baker, and an all around awesome human being- and they all exist in the person that is Lynn Adamo of Hillsboro, Oregon. It’s hard to believe, but Lynn is all that and more. She recently won a commission from
Paul’s mosaic panels are completed
After I created this exterior mosaic mirror to coordinate with my client’s new interior furnishings, he was so pleased he commissioned two more pieces for the entry walkway to his home. He lives in a beautiful complex on the shore of the bay in Tampa, Florida and has a walkway bridge that leads to his screened in porch and front

Mosaic Town is growing
Mosaic town has been growing steadily over the past week, and is almost complete. I have added three new buildings and created several montage photos so you can see the process as well as the various views of the new buildings. This is the 2 Story House made of handmade ceramic tile with a glass mosaic tile roof. I created
Progress on Mosaic Town
Just a brief update on my little town project. Today I completed another building I think of as the Office Building-with a striated copper tiled roof of glass and seafoam green handmade ceramic tile for the walls. Again-this is ungrouted to date. I am starting on the 2 Story House tomorrow, but have already deviated from my original
Creating Mosaic Town
Hey everyone-Happy 4th of July-or as I like to call it, Interdependence Day.I’m working on another mosaic town and thought I’d share some progress photos with you today. I start with a hunk of insulation foam board. Yep-the kind they use to insulate homes with. The color denotes the density. Pink and blue are most common here in the states.
Chicken Love
I can’t help it- I am here to admit it to the world. I love chickens! Yes. The live ones. And although I’m just beginning to tell the difference between a Banty and a Rhode Island Red, they all have such hilarious personalities- I just can’t tear myself away from them whenever and wherever I encounter them. I spent a
The Art of Fashion Design
I’m happy and excited to share with you my good friend Joe Dunbar’s Kickstarter project The Runway: A Fashion Documentary. He’s been creating works of fashion for at least 25 years, as well as training the next generation of models – many of which have gone on to do work for Nike and model in L.A. Joe created one of
Mosaics and Art at Downtowne Coffee
Back in 2005 I was a member of a studio called Phoenix Clay and Steelworks in Phoenix, OR. We had shared ceramic equipment, kilns, and our own 10′ x 10′ workspaces in one large room, as well as a classroom and gallery. We wanted the studio to be welcoming to the community and we wanted to brighten up the city of

They are excited to be carrying some local artwork so I encourage you to check it out. These plaques make great
The Blue Door Garden Store
This cute little garden shop just started carrying some of my ceramic plaques! They are located in the historic gold mining town of Jacksonville,OR in a builing I’m guessing must be around 130 years old. It’s tiny, but very cute and it has really quality products. They sell fountains, garden art, tools, lanterns, furniture, and these sweet little miniature garden
The tiles are coming! The tiles are coming!
Whoot whoot! They came out great-there will be a line of these that wrap around one step of Pete and Carol’s front porch entry. About 34 linear feet. I will be so excited to see this project completed. They just put in all of their front garden landscaping last fall and I think it’s going to be a beautiful final
Clay gift certificate
I’m going to my second baby shower of all time (I have mostly child-free friends). Decided to gift a piece of my art-but thought I’d present this clay gift certificate (still wet) so she’d have something to unwrap at the shower. Away I go!!
Progess on Pete and Carol ‘s tiles
Waiting for the kiln to cool so I can see how many tiles”worked”. They look pretty good on top -I’m hopeful the whole load is as good.

Mosaic Marathon
Mosaic Marathon at the Society Of American Mosaic Artists 2013 Conference I was lucky enough to be a little helper bee under the tutelage of Lynn Adamo on this fun yearly event, creating mosaic art for a lucky non-profit in whatever community we hold our conference in that year. This year it was Tacoma, WA, and the recipient was the
Penelope’s plaque
My friend Penelope Dews has graciously been trading me for half the cost of clay classes with her over the past several months.I am finally learning to throw on the wheel thanks to the wondrous “technology” of –you guessed it – Electricity!! More on throwing in another post. Back to this one.I am finally holding up to my end of
Working on tiles for Pete and Carol
I’ve spent a good part of the day trying to glaze 3 color handmade tiles for an exterior application (stair risers). So far it’s gone slowly, as each color has to be applied using a sprayer and hand shielded with templates so there’s reduced overspray. Tricky as hell, and time consuming, but the test came out well-so I’m hopeful this
